Candle Making
You have come to the right place to find the excellent article on this topic.
Candles in retail shops can be expensive. They can range anywhere from a couple of dollars on upwards of thirty dollars depending on where you buy your scented candles. But why are you paying that much for a candle that someone else has made when you can enjoy candle making in your very own home? It is not as hard as you may think and you can have a great time making your own candles from scratch or from a kit. You can have those same home decor candles made from paraffin wax or soy wax but at a fraction of the price.
Candle making begins with making the decision on whether or not you will be using soy, paraffin or beeswax. Each is used for different reasons. Beeswax candles are the easiest to make because they require no melting. Simply wrap around the wick and press. Soy wax is all natural and very easy to clean up. Paraffin, though, is more widely used and you will have an easier time finding this material.
So let's say you are going to use paraffin wax. You will also need: wicks, molds, scented oil for fragrance, something in which you can melt the wax, dyes and putty. Once you have assembled the necessary ingredients it is time to begin by melting the wax. Please be careful and try not to burn the wax or yourself. Once the wax is melted you will want to work quickly before the wax has time to cool. It is at this point that you add the scented oils and dyes; crayons actually work great for color.
Now comes time for your wick. Insert the wick into the mold and through the opposite end. Secure the wick in place with the putty and wrap the remaining wick outside of the mold around a pencil to hold the wick in place. Now carefully pour the wax into the mold.
Once you have the wax in place, it will need to harden. Do not mess with the candle until it is fully solidified. Do not try to speed the process along, as it will take several hours and perhaps even overnight. Once it is hard you can light and enjoy.
Candle making is a great way to bring together family and friends for a fun craft. Each person can make their own scented candle and decorate it how they see fit. They will love the fact that they made the candle themselves and have saved a ton of money that would have been given over to a retail shop. Once you make one batch and see how easy it is you will not want to stop there.
